He said the business had already refunded the vast majority of customers, but was experiencing delays in collecting customer money from partner airlines. Major travel firms including Love Holidays, and Virgin Holidays have committed to refunding more than 100,000 consumers more than £200m for cancelled trips, following CMA interventions.Ī spokesman for Teletext Holidays said the firm had “consistently stated its commitment to refund all customers” and was “extremely disappointed” with the CMA’s action that “seemingly ignores the reality of the challenges we face”. The authority has written to more than 100 travel firms about refund delays, after it received tens of thousands of complaints from angry customers when the pandemic first started. It is unacceptable that many have already waited months for the refunds they are legally entitled to.” Watchdog boss Andrea Coscelli said: “There must be no more delays to Teletext refunding customers for holidays they could not take because of the pandemic. The CMA said it had now informed the holiday firm it will face court action if it does not repay the outstanding refunds, or commit to do so, “without unnecessary delay”. ![]() The consumer watchdog wrote to Teletext Holidays in March warning it of its legal responsibilities, but said the company had failed to sufficiently address the situation. The severe delays in payouts promoted the Competition and Markets Authority to launch an investigation in February. ![]() But the company has been inundated with messages from angry customers on social media.
